The 13th edition of the FISU World University Wrestling Championship is about to begin. The event, which starts September 4th, will be hosted in Goiânia, the capital of Goiás, in Brazil.
WUC Wrestling will take place at the spacious gymnasium Rio Vermelho.
The delegations started to arrive in the city last Saturday (September 1st), the first delegation to arrive was Hungary, followed by Poland and Japan.
Athletes from Germany, Belarus, Bulgaria, Canada, Mexico, Slovakia, Russia, Turkey and from the host country, Brazil, will also be part of the competition.
In total around 140 athletes will compete in 3 categories: female free-style, male freestyle and male Greco-Roman.
Goiânia has already hosted another World University Championship, the WUC Futsal in 2016.
The city also hosted the Brazilian University Games (JUBs) in 2017, and is ready to host another major sports event.
The Rio Vermelho gymnasium, located in the central region of Goiânia and with capacity for five thousand people, will be the main stage of the event
The entrance for the event will be free and the public will be able to closely watch athletes from 12 different countries battling for the titles of the WUC Wrestling.
In partnership with the FISU Committee, the Brazilian Confederation of University Sports – CBDU and the Goian Federation of University Sports – FGDU is responsible for Organizing the WUC Wrestling 2018.
The main gymnasium is close to the Umuarama Hotel, the place designated to attend athletes, coaches, referees and the Organizing Committee.
Umuarama Hotel is also the place where will be held all the meetings (CISCA technical meeting, referees meeting) draws, Weigh-In and accreditacion process.
The Championship lasts until 9th September with a special closing ceremony. From September 5th untill the last day of WUC, the competitions will start at 2 pm (local time) every day.
Tomorrow the competitions starts at 3 pm and the Open Ceremony will take place at 5 pm.
