The third day of WUC Wrestling competitions reserved exciting moments and awarded seven more categories.  On this Thursday, the girls went up for the first time to the WUC podium, the highlight was Elena Brugger. The German athlete was losing the final to Momoka Kadoya when she was able to apply the maximum blow of the competition in the opponent, reversing the fight and taking the gold medal.

Brugger said that she knew it would be a difficult fight, but she did not let herself down because of it:  “I knew the Japanese was very strong even though I never fought against her, but it’s in my spirit don’t give up until the last second. I did not lose the faith that I could win. I didn’t know what to expect of the competition, my first fight was also very difficult and fierce. It’s my first international competition and I’m very happy to bring the gold medal home, ” said Brugger.

3rd Place: Shauna Kuebeck (CANADA)

The WUC Wrestling lasts until September 9th at the Rio Vermelho Gymnasium and the entrance is free. In the men’s category, the Greco-Roman style rounds will begin this Friday at 14hs.
